COLLEGE/FURTHER EDUCATION LACROSSE

England Lacrosse runs a Lacrosse Accredited Colleges Scheme (LACS) in Further Education institutions across England. The scheme aims to bring lacrosse to the FE sector through a coordinated and sustainable programme to increase regular participation within the 16-18 age group.

In conjunction with the Association of Colleges Sport, member colleges receive training from England Lacrosse to assist in delivery of the sport, in-person CPD, and additional learning opportunities for identified students through a Student Ambassador initiative designed to give young adults leadership skills in addition to supporting practical delivery of lacrosse.

The teacher training provided alongside the above Introduction to Lacrosse resource pack give students an ideal grounding in lacrosse covering principles of the game, technical skills, activities & game-based practices and also covers the playing and officiating of a full-game situation.

As well as working with the FE teachers, the programme will also provide additional learning opportunities for identified students through a Student Ambassador initiative designed to give young adults leadership skills in addition to supporting practical delivery of lacrosse again with support from The Lacrosse Foundation.

YOUNG LEADERS PROGRAMME

In addition to the Lacrosse Accredited Colleges Scheme, colleges are also offered the opportunity to put their students through our Young Leaders Programme which is designed to begin to develop leadership skills in addition to supporting practical delivery of lacrosse.

The programme sets out principles and practices for the students to improve and challenge their existing knowledge and delivery methods, as key ideas and concepts are introduced for coaching lacrosse in England.

By the end of this programme each student will have covered:

- Understanding the principles of each element of the game and how to better implement these concepts within their coaching;

- Understanding the relevance and benefits of different types of practice and what the practices can achieve for you as a coach and your players;

- Developing a better understanding of using practices to influence and positively impact effective game play.

Questions and tasks are included throughout each section to support learning and understanding and help to build the students’ skills for future life.

LACROSSE 6s

Our FE offer utilises the Lacrosse 6s version of the sport; a small-sided game with easy to understand rules, designed to support players of all abilities to have a positive experience with sport.

The 6s game is adaptable, easy to deliver and a very popular addition to the school curriculum for teachers and coaches looking to add something different. Whilst based on the same game principles as other team invasion sports, the unique nature of lacrosse provides a level playing field across ability levels and genders.

Perfect for developing:

  • coordination and agility

  • strong values around teamwork and communication

RESOURCES

The Resource pack looks at the principles of the game, technical skills, activities & game-based practices and also covers the playing and officiating of a full-game situation.

Every card offers ideas for differentiation, progression, and questions to support the learning and each one can be adapted so that it falls in line with Government coronavirus guidelines.
