Lacrosse's Olympic venue announced!

The Stadium in Exposition Park will be the lacrosse venue for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, World Lacrosse has announced.

As well as showcasing lacrosse at an Olympic Games for the first time in 80 years, The Stadium will also host flag football during LA28 with the pitch being configured according to the smaller field of play used for both disciplines.

Situated in the heart of Los Angeles, The Stadium in Exposition Park has a capacity of 22,000 and is home to Los Angeles FC and Angel City FC who play in the MLS and NWSL respectively.

Despite only opening seven years ago in 2018, The Stadium has already experienced high-level lacrosse when it hosted the inaugural, and so far only, Premier League Lacrosse All-Star Game in July 2019.

Iron Maiden, Guns N’ Roses, The Killers, and Blackpink have all performed sell-out concerts at The Stadium that is adjacent to the LA Memorial Coliseum and within walking distance of other key LA28 venues.

Every LA28 venue assignment is subject to final approval from the International Olympic Committee Executive Board next month.

England Home Internationals squads announced

England Lacrosse is pleased to announce the four England squads making the trip to Scotland for the 2025 Home Internationals Series.

The annual competition, taking place from 4-6 April at the SportScotland National Sports Training Centre in Largs, will see England take on other international sides in competitive fixtures as they continue their preparations for upcoming Championships and get a taste of international lacrosse.

Each England side will play three games during the 2025 Home Internationals, one each against hosts Scotland, Wales, and then, as has been customary over the last few years, a third against a guest international team.

Czechia join both the Women’s A competitions (Senior and U20), while a South Africa side enter the Women’s B competition, and Sweden join the Men’s competition.

The England Women’s Senior side will be in international action for the first time since being crowned European Champions in Portugal back in the summer of 2024, representing the beginning of the road to Tokyo 2026 and the Women’s World Championship.

A number of players are in line for a first senior cap, including Honor Ashby, Ana Green, and Freya Moody who all played at last year’s Women’s Under 20 World Championship.

Our squad for the men’s competition has a youthful makeup with our Under 20s training programme, led by Michael Armstrong, taking up the challenge ahead of a hugely important summer for the group.

The 22-player squad will gain valuable experience during the Home Internationals Series, playing against senior international sides who are themselves preparing for the Men’s European Championship.

The Under 20 programme also took part in the Men’s Senior competition last year, with the event helping them in their development and assisting the squad in becoming the well-rounded athletes the programme sets out to create ahead of the 2025 Men’s Under 20 World Championship.

 The England team for the Women’s Junior competition is made up of our brightest talents from our National Aspire programme and players from the England Development squad that meet the age eligibility with the coaching staff also being made up of coaches from the National Aspire programme.

Home Internationals will represent a first taste of international action for a number of these athletes and should be a fantastic occasion for our young players to gain valuable match experience at this level.

England Lacrosse to host Youth Officials' Course in North West

England Lacrosse is delighted to announce we will be hosting our next Youth Officials’ Courses at Stockport Lacrosse Club on Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 April.

Wednesday will see experienced official Dean Mohareb lead a refereeing course while international umpire Paul Bibby will take charge of an umpiring course on the Thursday.

Enabling young individuals to be able to safely officiate youth games in conjunction with other qualified officials, the Youth Officials’ Course is open to individuals aged 14 and above.

On completion of the course, participants will be able to officiate games below their age group with a qualified adult. 

Upon turning 16 years old, individuals will then be awarded their Level 1 Officiating Qualification and will be able to officiate any games that are open to a Level 1.

The cost per person for each course is £25.

Bath University to host first Southern Development Tournament

Bath University is set to host the first ever Southern Universities Development Lacrosse Tournament on Saturday 29 March with Bath, Surrey, Canterbury Christ Church, and Cardiff Universities all taking part.

With over 50 players from the four universities participating, the Southern Universities Development Tournament will have a round robin structure with a champion being crowned at the end of the day.

All four university teams have had strong seasons in the BUCS leagues with Bath being crowned Southern Premier champions but the ultimate aim of the tournament is to develop younger or less experienced players and to build connections between the universities heading into the future.

Taking place at the Medical Pitch at Bath University from 10am, the tournament is the brainchild of Bath’s University Lacrosse Officer (ULO) Toby West and is set to be a fun-filled day of lacrosse.

The England Lacrosse ULO Programme has been in existence since 2018 and aims to further support and develop the lacrosse population at university, link with local clubs and residents near the university, and support players’ transition from education to employment, so individuals continue to be part of the lacrosse community after education.

Applications to officiate at The Fly 2025 now open

The Fly Sixes Lacrosse League are searching for the next set of officials to take charge of matches at their 2025 competition as officiating applications opened today.

The annual showcase of the best Sixes Lacrosse in the UK, featuring players from all over the world, allows officials the opportunity to officiate at an elite performance event.

With opportunities to officiate as a referee, an umpire, or cross-code, The Fly Sixes Lacrosse League is open to officials of all abilities and experiences, with voluntary roles such as bench officials on offer too.

The Fly returns to the Manchester Regional Arena for its Finals Weekend on Saturday 31 May and Sunday 1 June.

But not until this year’s competition begins in a brand new venue at Blackheath Rugby Club, the world’s oldest open rugby club in continuous existence, on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 May.

Tickets available for 2025 Home Internationals Series

Tickets are now available for this year’s 2025 Home Internationals Series from just £5, Lacrosse Scotland has announced.

Taking place from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 April at the Sport Scotland National Centre, Inverclyde, this year’s Home Internationals Series will see four England teams take part in the three-day competition.

The England Women’s Performance Programme led by Head Coach Mike Molster will be taking two squads, the England Lacrosse Aspire Programme will take a development squad to take part in the junior competition, and the England U20 Men’s Programme will be taking a squad in preparation for their World Championship in Korea in August.

After last year’s Home Internationals Series was held in Cardiff by Wales Lacrosse, 2025 marks a first return to Scotland since 2022 and the west coast of the country in the picturesque town of Largs.

A full weekend ticket, taking in the full three days of lacrosse, costs £40 with individual tickets for each day available at £15 for adults and £5 for concessions (U18s, students, seniors).

NTU claim historic three-peat after derby win on BUCS Big Wednesday

Nottingham Trent University completed an historic three-peat as they secured the 2025 National Championship trophy with a 12-9 win over city rivals the University of Nottingham on BUCS Big Wednesday yesterday.

Eight separate goal-scorers, including a hat-trick from Jason Thomforde, helped Trent over the line in what should have been a comfortable win that became more than a little tense in the fourth quarter.

Four goals from Ben Jackson and three from Collin Stewart brought Nottingham to within three goals of Trent and salvaged some pride in a game where they were 10-2 down at the end of the third.

A tense back and forth first quarter ended with the teams just a single goal apart after Justin White hammered home with two minutes until quarter-time.

But a more simple second quarter from a Trent point of view saw them heading into the third in the ascendency and with a four goal lead after Blair Pachereva, Drew Wilkinson, and Thomforde scored.

Trent took that momentum and confidence into the penultimate quarter and, despite Nottingham showing some promise, took a 10-2 lead going into the final 15 minutes.

A game which looked easily won by Trent was thrown into disarray in the fourth as Nottingham, with nothing to lose, came out quickly and reduced the deficit to just three goals after a hat-trick from Stewart, two from Jamie Mochan, and a fourth from Ben Jackson.

With a couple of minutes to go in the game, Trent picked up the ball and saw the game out to win a third National Championship title in a row but Nottingham will be left wondering what might have been had there been an extra few minutes to play.

UoN demolish Exeter to reclaim Championship title on BUCS Big Wednesday

The University of Nottingham demolished Exeter University 12-3 in the 2025 Women’s National Championship final at Loughborough University on BUCS Big Wednesday yesterday.

England’s Emma Savage scored four with England U20 Euros-winning captain Rachael Ball hitting a hat-trick as the University of Nottingham reclaimed the title they lost to Durham last year.

The victory means Nottingham, led by England U20 men’s Head Coach Mike Armstrong, has now won three of the last four National Championship finals, securing themselves as the UK’s dominant force in women’s university lacrosse.

Nottingham started hard and fast and never looked back, securing a four-goal lead through Carys Johnson, Savage, and two from Ball, with just one quarter gone.

Another big quarter from Nottingham in the second left Exeter with a mountain to climb as the midlands club sailed into a 7-0 lead after strikes from Riley McGettigan and a brace from Charlie Bell.

An Exeter side led by England women’s Head Coach Mike Molster was never going to completely give up and a stronger third quarter saw them score their first goal of the match through Sofia Wise.

But it was the defensive side of the game that continued to let Exeter down and they shipped another three goals courtesy of Johnson and two more from Savage before the whistle blew for quarter-time.

A more even final quarter allowed for an exciting last 15 minutes with two goals for both sides but the damage had already been done and Nottingham secured the 2025 National Championship trophy.

BUCS Big Wednesday returns to Loughborough University tomorrow with four games of lacrosse across the men’s and women’s competitions in the battle to be crowned National Championship and Trophy winners for 2025.

The University of Nottingham are back in the Women’s Championship final looking to win a third title in four years after a narrow defeat to Durham last year saw them miss out on an historic three-peat under the tutelage of Head Coach Mike Armstrong.

With Exeter returning to BUCS Big Wednesday after a year away, it’s a repeat of the 2023 Championship final as Mike Molster’s side look to upset the odds and claim a first title in their history.

They had a dramatic journey to Wednesday’s final with an incredible 7-6 comeback win over last year’s finalists Durham.

Having been 6-2 down at the half, it was looking bleak for an Exeter side full to the brim with international talent but they rallied in miraculous fashion to take the win right at the death.

UoN’s semi-final saw a fairly routine 10-5 win over BUCS Big Wednesday hosts Loughborough and, with just one defeat between the two finalists all season (an 8-7 UoN loss to Durham in November), we’re surely in for a classic goal-filled match.

With no fewer than 16 players between the two sides in the England Performance and Development squads, including England U20 captains Ana Green and Rachael Ball (both UoN), the 2025 Women’s Championship final will be one for the ages.

The Women’s Championship final gets underway at 4:30pm.

Over in the Men’s Championship, we have a repeat of the past two finals between two of the best university sides in the English game.

Nottingham Trent will be looking to claim a third title in as many years against the University of Nottingham, and it’s a familiar story for both teams with NTU having already secured the BUCS Premier North crown with a six-point gap over UoN.

As with the women’s teams, both men’s rosters are stacked with experience, highlighting the strength of the game in England at the moment.

NTU Head Coach Sam Patterson has a four-strong leadership group that includes Blair Pachereva and Justin White, who have both featured in the NCAA for Brock Badgers and Rollins College respectively, as well as young England stars Nathan Wilkinson and Will Locker, who both helped England U20s to a silver medal at last year’s U20 Euros.

Across the city, UoN have a sturdy spine of England U20 players running through the team including captains Joachim Ruby and Billy Styche.

Noah Arnison, Jack Dearden, Xander Stewart, James Thompson, and Jamie Mochan also feature as part of the England U20 contingent, alongside Jamaican international Tony Diallo as UoN search for an historic first Championship title.

This season’s results all point to an NTU victory with the team going into the final unbeaten in 24/25 and claiming wins in both fixtures against UoN (14-5 & 11-3) but anything can truly happen when these two rivals take to the field tomorrow night.

The Men’s Championship final gets underway at 7:15pm.

The opening match on BUCS Big Wednesday is the Women’s Trophy final as Exeter 2s take on Durham 2s in a repeat of last year’s showdown.

In that game, Exeter 2s came out with the narrow 13-10 win and they’ll be hoping to do the same again in 2025 after an unbeaten season saw them claim the Premier South 2 title by a huge 12 points.

Despite just one defeat this season (an opening day 9-5 loss to Liverpool), Durham 2s finished second in the Premier North 2 division behind Liverpool but will head into Wednesday’s Trophy final with confidence after nine league wins in a row.

The opening Women’s match up will be followed by the Men’s Trophy final between Imperial College and Manchester Metropolitan.

Both brand new teams to the Trophy final for this year, Imperial and Man Met completed unbeaten seasons to win their respective league titles.

Imperial come into this match with a big 11-2 semi-final win over Bournemouth 2s while Man Met, led this season by former England men’s box lacrosse team Assistant Coach Andy Downing, defeated Northumbria 9-2 to claim their spot in the end of season showpiece.

New England Lacrosse coaching course dates confirmed

England Lacrosse is delighted to announce the next set of webinar dates for our Field Lacrosse Coaching course with six sessions between now and the end of 2025.

The Field Lacrosse Coaching award is ideal for learners wanting to gain the knowledge to lead the coaching of a full field lacrosse team. 

The awards are now split between men’s and women’s lacrosse, allowing learning to be tailored more towards each individual’s needs.

The course focuses on developing both the individual and a team; improving knowledge of developing skills and techniques, and identifying different coaching and learning styles to help review and evaluate their coaching practices.

Following the initial webinar session, participants will be allocated an individual tutor with touch points throughout the duration of the course.

To complete to course and gain the award, participants will complete an assessed coaching session.

Prices for the course start from £207.50 for England Lacrosse members and individuals must be 18 or older on the day of certification and have a prior knowledge of lacrosse to be eligible to participate.

In addition, England Lacrosse is looking to hold an opening webinar for our Advanced Coaching course on Tuesday 8 April with participants able to sign up by sending a CV to Nik Roberts on [email protected].

Additional face-to-face meetings for the Advanced course will take place on Saturday 10 & Sunday 11 May and Saturday 14 & Sunday 15 June subject to a venue being secured.

The England Lacrosse Advanced Coaching award is the prerequisite for coaches wishing to advance towards the England Lacrosse Aspire programme accessing Continued Professional Development within our talent system.

Individuals wishing to take the Advanced Coaching course must be England Lacrosse members with prices starting from £250 for those with an England Lacrosse Field Lacrosse Coaching award.

England Lacrosse launches university lacrosse players survey

England Lacrosse is delighted to, once again, launch our bi-annual survey for all university lacrosse players designed to monitor and measure the personal well-being and social outcomes of lacrosse participants at university.

The survey will enable us to evidence the impact lacrosse participation has on students' well-being, mental health and future prospects.

The anonymous information provided will enable England Lacrosse to understand the impact participating in lacrosse has on an individual’s well-being and social outcomes in the university environment and how we can adapt and develop the lacrosse offer at university to better serve the university lacrosse community.

Berkhamsted bring home Under 13 National Schools Championship

Berkhamsted brought home the final silverware of the 2025 National Schools Lacrosse Championships by storming to the Under 13 crown on the final day of competition.

They produced a dominant display to defeat Guildford High 6-2 in the final and round off a superb day of lacrosse that saw them dominate the competition from start to finish.

Despite this being the first time out at the National Schools Championships for our Under 13 teams, Berkhamsted took to it straight away with an emphatic performance in the pool stages, winning all four games, scoring 23 and conceding none.

Wins against North London Collegiate (6-0), Benenden (2-0), Godstowe (8-0), and Godolphin (7-0), put Berko in pole position to be competing for silverware come the end of the day.

However, they were really tested in their first knockout match against St Pauls with a 2-2 scoreline seeing them advance on the ‘first goal scored’ rule.

However, that would be by far the closest any opposition team would come to stopping Berkhamsted’s run as an 8-1 quarter final win against Claremont Fan Court was then followed by an equally impressive 6-1 semi final victory over Birkenhead.

The final opponents Guildford High had a strong start to the day too, beating Habs Girls 5-0, Downe House and St Helen & St Katharine 3-1, and St Albans 7-1, though they did lose a tight match against Putney High 0-1.

Their knockout games were tight contests, defeating Wycombe Abbey 2-1 in Last 16 and St Catherine’s 3-2 in the quarter final, before a big 5-1 win against St George’s Harpenden gave them confidence going into the final.

However, Berkhamsted continued their formidable goal scoring form right through to the final and despite Guildford’s best efforts it was the Hertfordshire school that ran out 6-2 winners and 2025 champions.

St Catherine's secure Under 14 National Schools Championship

St Catherine’s claimed the Under 14 National Schools Championship title after defeating Downe House 1-0 in a tense final on Day 4 in Aldershot.

The Surrey school were extremely free scoring throughout the group stages, defeating Queen Margaret’s (10-0), Stowe (4-0), Heathfield (8-0), and Withington (4-3) for a +23 goal difference.

Their form continued as they advanced through to the knockouts with a 5-0 win over St Pauls in the Last 16, followed by a 2-1 win over previously unbeaten St Albans in the quarter final.

A professional 3-0 semi final win set St Cat’s up for a meeting against Downe House in the final who had been equally impressive in their run to the Championships game.

A perfect pool play record matched that of St Cat’s, beating Abbots Hill (6-0), St James (8-0), Bedford (6-0) and St Pauls (5-2) to enter the knockouts with the best record and a +24 goal difference.

A rematch against Bedford in the Last 16 was no trouble with a 4-0 win, before a much tougher quarter final against Queen Anne’s finishing 3-3 and going to overtime, both teams were still unable to be separated, and Downe House were able to advance by virtue of scoring first.

Downe House’s momentum was carried into a tough semi final against Putney High, this time managing to just come out on the right side of a 3-2 scoreline to take on St Cat’s

The final was an extremely tight contest and, with a scoreless first half, it looked as though the match could be decided by a single goal, and that proved to be the case.

A lovely passing move finally cut open the Downe House defence and St Cat’s took with the lead with only a few minutes remaining.

Downe House did have chances to tie the game and take it to overtime but a mix of a resolute defending and good goalkeeping kept them out and St Catherine’s were able to see the game through to the end leading to well-deserved celebrations.

Ireland and Czechia join GB as final World Games 2025 places secured

Ireland and Czechia secured their places at The World Games 2025 with semi-final wins at the 2025 EuroLax Sixes Cup in Vila Real de Santo António, Portugal over the weekend.

With USA, Canada, Australia, and Great Britain having already qualified for the Games by finishing in the top four at the 2022 competition, China qualifying as hosts, and Japan as the Pan-Asia regional qualifiers, there were just two spots up for grabs as 12 European teams came together for the EuroLax Sixes Cup.

And after six days of competition, Ireland confirmed their place at August’s World Games by defeating Israel in an over-time thriller that finished 11-10 while Czechia booked their spot with a huge 15-5 win over Germany.

Ireland claimed the 2025 EuroLax trophy with a tight 12-11 win against Czechia but the big prize was already won with both teams heading Chengdu, China to take part in The World Games from 7-11 August.

Czechia will make their second appearance at The World Games after competing in the sixes competition in 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama.

Ireland will make their debut in the event after a strong year for its various women’s teams, participating in the European Women’s Lacrosse Championship, the World Lacrosse Women’s U20 Championship and the World Lacrosse Women’s Box Championship.

Great Britain will feature in the competition for the third time after finishing fourth in both 2017 and 2022.

Brilliant Berkhamsted seal overtime win to earn Under 15 Championship

Berkhamsted came through a nailbiting overtime final against Putney High to claim the Under 15A National Schools Championship.

Berko were made to battle back though as after going into a 2-0 lead in the final, Putney looked like they were on course for a comeback victory as they went 2-3 ahead in the closing stages.

However, a late equaliser sent the match into overtime and three tense OT periods followed before Berkhamsted finally broke the deadlock to win the Championship in dramatic fashion.

Berkhamsted were victorious in the U14 competition last year, with the cohort now managing to repeat that success at Under 15 level for this year.

The Hertfordshire school recorded three wins out of four in the pool stages, defeating St Pauls (4-0), Wycombe Abbey (3-2), and Abbots Hill (9-0), with a close defeat against Moreton Hall (2-3) leaving them 2nd in Pool A.

However, they then stormed through the knockout rounds with convincing wins against St Helen & St Katharine in the Last 16 (6-0), Downe House in the quarter final (5-1), and the previously unbeaten St Swithun’s 4-2 in the semi final.

Meanwhile, Putney were five out of five through the pool stages with wins against St Helen & St Katharine, Marlborough College, St George’s Harpenden, Bedford, and Godolphin.

They then came through against Lady Eleanor Holles in the Last 16, Westonbirt in the quarter finals, and Birkenhead in the semi final to set up the meeting with Berkhamsted.

The final was a real back and forth contest with the momentum swinging one way and then the other before the dramatic overtime periods that brought the Cha,pionship to a thrilling conclusion that ultimately went in Berkhamsted’s favour.

National Schools Lacrosse Championships event preview

The anticipation is building for the 2025 National Schools Lacrosse Championships as we are almost ready to kick off this year’s competition and welcome thousands of players and supporters to Aldershot for four days of top level lacrosse.

Aldershot Garrison Sports Centre is the venue once again for this year’s Championships across Saturday 8 - Tuesday 11 March.

Competitors from the Under 13s experiencing the event for the first time, right through to the U19s competing for the top honours will be putting on a real spectacle of lacrosse as over 200 teams take to the field across the four days.

The National Schools Lacrosse Championships, first held in 1944, is a hugely historic event and one of the marquee moments of the lacrosse season.

Registration for 2025 Stockport September Sixes opens

Registration for the 2025 edition of the annual Stockport September Sixes competition is now open with teams able to sign up until September.

Taking place on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 September at Stockport Lacrosse Club, Greater Manchester, the Stockport September Sixes is now in its fifth year and will once again feature senior men’s and women’s competitions alongside a full junior tournament with sections from U12 to U18 level.

Following the successful launch of the competition in 2021, the event has grown year on year with the 2025 edition set to be the biggest and best yet with teams from all over the country welcomed.

With The Fly Sixes Lacrosse League showcasing some of the world’s best Sixes Lacrosse players, the Stockport September Sixes competition allows everyone of all abilities to try their hand at the exciting, fast-paced format of the game that will be showcased at the LA28 Olympic Games.

Over the past four years, the September Sixes has welcomed teams from the north of England and the Midlands, as well as university teams from all over the country.

Last year’s competition saw Stockport lift the men’s trophy and University of Nottingham claim the women’s title.

Teams can enter the competition for an early bird price of £50 up until 23:59 on 31 July, with prices rising to £60 from 1 August.
