England Lacrosse are proud to announce that we have signed the new Sporting Equals Race Equality Charter as a commitment to promoting equality for BAME communities in lacrosse.

Sporting Equals is an independent body that works to promote ethnic diversity throughout the sporting community and their Race Equality Charter directly encourages organisations to become an active part of delivering change in the physical activity sector.

Greater progress, positive action, and outcomes are needed to ensure the organisation and the sport of lacrosse creates opportunities for, and benefits from, the wealth of diverse talent on offer.

The Race Equality Charter aims to deliver on three vital points; to capture, commit, and celebrate:

  • Capture ethnicity data and intelligence - This is important to allow us to establish a baseline position and measure progress. Regular monitoring and publication of progress is also a crucial step towards an organisation being perceived as open and transparent

  • Commit to tackling underrepresentation at all levels through positive action - This is about adopting appropriate policies, practices, and programmes to increase opportunities for BAME communities

  • Celebrate positive role models and stories - Highlighting and promoting positive BAME role models in elite and grassroots sport goes a long way in gaining trust and promoting positive perceptions among BAME communities

England Lacrosse Chief Executive, Mark Coups, commented: “England Lacrosse is committed to affecting real change within our BAME participation and workforce.

“We see working with Sporting Equals and signing the Race Equality Charter as important steps towards achieving our goal of real change.

“Sporting Equals’ independent expertise will provide key advice on the actions we need to take to improve our sport and help us deliver on commitment for change”.
