Steve Stenersen has announced his intention to step down as CEO of US Lacrosse by the end of the year after decades in the sport.

All of us at England Lacrosse would like to congratulate Steve on his long and successful career with US Lacrosse, he leaves behind a legacy of which anyone would be proud.

Steve has worked for US Lacrosse for over 37 years serving as President and CEO.

In his time he has; steered US Lacrosse to become one of the foremost governing bodies in America, overseen unprecedented growth in people playing, the expansion of the sport across the whole country, the building of the a 45,000 sq ft National Lacrosse Centre which now houses the US Lacrosse HQ and Lacrosse Hall of Fame and the professionalisation of the sport in playing and administration.

Steve’s handprint can also be seen in the growth of international lacrosse with him being centrally involved in the unification of the Men's and Women's international federations to form the Federation of International Lacrosse, now World Lacrosse.

He has been the vice president of World Lacrosse since 2014 and instrumental in the development of the world game.

Steve has been a keen supporter of Lacrosse in England and has greatly assisted us in our player development programme throughout past three decades with information, recruitment and advice.

His departure will not only represent the end of an era but also a chance for the sport to acknowledge and acclaim the work he has done.

Mark Coups, England Lacrosse CEO, commented: "Steve Stenersen has been one of the most significant figures in both American and World Lacrosse for many decades.

“His enthusiasm, commitment, vision and humility in leadership will be missed by us all.

“He has been and will continue to be, a friend to Lacrosse in England and we all wish him well as he leaves US Lacrosse.”
