Vic Alexander appointed England Women's U20 Head Coach

England Lacrosse is pleased to announce the appointment of Vic Alexander as England Women’s Under 20s Head Coach.

Vic will lead the team at the 2023 U20 European Championship in Prague, Czech Republic this July with England going into the tournament as reigning champions.

She takes up the role following a five-year spell as Head Coach of Italy Women, working to successfully develop the programme in the country, taking the Italians to a 13th place finish at the 2019 Women’s Euros and 18th at the 2022 Women’s World Championship.

Vic, who gained her first international coaching experience with Wales in 2005, returns to the England Lacrosse setup after previously serving as Assistant Coach of the England Development Squad (now U23s), between 2014 and 2017.

Also an accomplished player, Vic represented England between 1992 and 2001, winning a bronze medal on home soil at the 2001 Women’s World Championship after which she then moved into coaching.

As Director of Sport at St Catherine’s School, Bramley for 15 years, Vic was responsible for the strategy, leadership and direction of sport throughout the school, overseeing a programme that saw over 30 girls representing Home Nations countries at previous Junior World Championships.

Vic will also work alongside the England Senior Women’s team and England Lacrosse Academy staff to ensure a consistent and coherent message throughout the Talent Pathway that enables England’s young talent to progress through the system and succeed at the very top of the sport.

On her appointment, Vic Alexander said: “I am thrilled to be taking on this role and feel very privileged to have this opportunity to work with this group of players towards the U20 European Championships this summer and I’m excited to meet the players this week at our first training session.

“I wanted to express my thanks to the National and Regional academy coaches for their hard work in continuing to develop the young players over the last three years and I look forward to working with them in the future.

“I am also looking forward to working closely with (England Women’s Senior Head Coach) Mike Molster and Derek Morgan in developing our young talent through a cohesive and well-structured programme.”

Derek Morgan, England Lacrosse National Performance Manager, said: “I’m delighted that we have been able to appoint someone of the calibre of Vic to the role of Women’s U20s Head Coach.

“Vic has spent a number of years coaching and developing athletes at both a junior and senior level and is well equipped to lead our best and brightest young talent as they compete on the international stage.”

“We have carried out a rigorous and highly competitive recruitment process for the position, with Vic’s knowledge and passion for the sport shining through and I’m looking forward to seeing our young athletes fulfil their potential under Vic’s direction.”
