England's Corey Small signs one-year deal with San Diego Seals in NLL

Corey Small plays for England against Canada at World Championships

England box player Corey Small has signed a new one-year deal with San Diego Seals in North America’s National Lacrosse League (NLL), extending his NLL career into an incredible 15th year.

38-year-old Small, who has taken in stints at Edmonton Rush, Vancouver Stealth, Buffalo Bandits, Philadelphia Wings, and Toronto Rock has an impeccable points-scoring record clocking up 400 goals and over 450 assists in 210 NLL games since his debut back in 2010.

For England, Small has six goals and six assists in five appearances after a scintillating debut tournament in Utica, USA last year at the 2024 World Lacrosse Box Championships where the Lions finished in fourth spot as the highest ranked European side.

Small will be hoping to help England retain the European Championship in Prague next summer after they secured their first major silverware at the 2022 Euros in Hannover three years ago.

San Diego Seals will be hoping Small can boost their roster after a difficult 2024/25 season that saw them finish eighth in the regular season table before being knocked out by Buffalo Bandits in the quarter-finals of the play-offs.

Small won’t be the only England player to take to the floor in the NLL this season as fellow attacker Jack Royer will make his league debut for Calgary Roughnecks in 2025 alongside goalie Cam MacLeod who will enter his fourth NLL season.

Last season’s NLL Goaltender of the Year Frank Scigliano, who represented England at the 2019 World Lacrosse Box Championship, will once again line up for Saskatchewan Rush who finished in second place in both the league and play-offs in 24/25.

Corey Small will make his San Diego Seals’ debut against Ottawa Black Bears on Saturday 29 November while Royer and MacLeod take on Scigliano’s Saskatchewan Rush on Saturday 6 December.
