Mellor to celebrate century of lacrosse with Centenary Ball

Mellor Lacrosse Club in Greater Manchester will celebrate its 100th birthday on Saturday with a special Centenary Ball.

Held in the clubhouse at Mellor, the Ball will be a chance for those associated with the club over the years to come together and celebrate a whole century of lacrosse.

A two-course meal will be followed by a series of speeches from members of the Mellor lacrosse community before a live band and party to finish off the night.

Founded in 1925, Mellor spent 36 years jumping from ground to ground within the Mellor, Marple, and Marple Bridge areas before landing in their permanent home at Mellor Sports Club in 1961 alongside the village’s cricket, tennis, badminton clubs.

One of the oldest and most successful clubs in the country, Mellor has a trophy cabinet full to the brim and prides itself on its work within the local community and getting a regular stream of youngsters into the sport.

Mellor continue to thrive with three men’s senior teams, a women’s team, youth teams in both boys and girls from under 9/8 through to under 18/19.
