England Lacrosse is delighted to announce that Phil Collier has been appointed to oversee the development of a new Sixes Lacrosse education programme for our senior coaching group.
With a distinguished career in lacrosse coaching, player development, and high-performance leadership, Collier brings decades of experience and a deep understanding of the game to the role.
Collier’s remit will include overseeing the development of coach education programmes for Sixes Lacrosse, supporting our existing player performance pathways to incorporate Sixes learning, and working across the board to assist coaches throughout our club and school systems to integrate Sixes into current lacrosse structures.
Collier has a coaching CV that spans decades in the sport and encompasses almost all levels and formats of the game.
He was one of the early pioneers for Sixes Lacrosse in England and the UK, leading the England Women’s side at the first ever international Sixes competition at the Home Nations Sixes back in 2021.
Phil was then appointed to lead the new British Lacrosse Women’s Sixes to the 2022 World Games in Alabama, with BL finishing 4th in a closely contested event. He oversaw multiple gold medal successes for the BL Women at the EuroLax Sixes events and in Canada.
As the Head Coach for BL, Phil was at the forefront of the worldwide development of sixes coaching and with the experience he gained he is one of the leading experts on this new lacrosse format.
In addition to medal success with BL, Collier of course also led England to consecutive bronze medals at the 2017 and 2022 Women’s Field World Championships as well as multiple European titles as national team Head Coach.
More than an international level coach, Collier has also worked with players and coaches at multiple levels of the sport; offering his expertise at club, school and university institutions across many years.
This breadth of knowledge will be important in developing a cohesive programme that supports a range of learners from Sixes fundamentals through to high level performance coaches and athletes.
Mark Coups, England Lacrosse CEO, said: “Phil is a superb coach with vast experience and having Phil onboard to pass on his knowledge gained with both British and England Lacrosse in this area is an exciting move forward. His appointment is a key part of our commitment to developing Sixes Lacrosse in the UK.
“As Sixes becomes more ingrained into the national lacrosse programme, it is crucial that we make investment in education and infrastructure around the format and Phil’s knowledge of Sixes, and wider player and coach development make him a great fit to shape how Sixes is taught, played and understood across the country.”
