England Lacrosse Return to Play EL Guidance Update 07.08.20

England Lacrosse would like to issue an update to our Return to Play (RTP) guidance, addressing the issuing of recent local lockdowns, and clarifying some further points raised during the RTP webinar on Wednesday.

Local Lockdown Guidance

The current local lockdown guidance released for Greater Manchester, Preston, Blackburn with Darwen, Burnley, Hyndburn, Pendle, Rossendale, Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees and Leicester determines that lacrosse clubs in these areas should remain in the current Phase 3 of return to play until the restrictions are lifted.

We also recommend that anyone within these areas should not travel outside of these zones to participate in lacrosse activity.

Please keep updated with government announcements regarding local lockdown restrictions since it may not be possible for England Lacrosse to react swiftly as they are announced at short notice.

England Lacrosse would like to remind everyone that this is an evolving situation. While this will be disappointing for the lacrosse community in these areas, Return To Play is part of a larger effort of seeking to control the outbreak and we all have a personal responsibility to do the right thing.

Phase 4 Return to Play Guideline Updates

Following questions raised by England Lacrosse members on the webinar on Wednesday 29 July, we have also clarified some aspects of our Return to Play guidelines with the EL Medical Advisory Panel. These clarified guidelines apply to the areas not under local lockdown guidance and permitted to enter Phase 4 of return to play from Saturday 1 August.

·      EL recommends that lacrosse participants play, coach or officiate in the sport on a maximum of two occasions each week, and that in line with Government guidance there should be no more than 30 people (players, coaches and officials) present on each occasion

·      EL further recommends that participants leave 3 days in between each lacrosse activity

·      EL recommends that temperature checks should be made of all players, officials and spectators on arrival at each lacrosse activity and that face masks should be worn by all parties when such temperature checks are being made.

How often can I play, coach or officiate lacrosse in a group of 30 in a week?

EL recommends that you take part in lacrosse activity in a group (whether playing, training or officiating) no more than twice a week, and that in line with Government rules, no more than 30 people are present at each activity.  It is also recommended that you leave 3 days between sessions. For example, you are able to train on a Tuesday and play on a Saturday.

Can I play another sport in addition to lacrosse?

EL recommends that your participation in competitive sport in a group of up to 30 people is limited to twice a week. It is also recommended that you leave 3 days between sessions. For example, you are able to play football on a Sunday and Lacrosse on a Wednesday.

Can I play lacrosse with different groups of up to 30 people?

EL recommends that in any one week you play or train with a maximum of two different groups of up to 30 people; in other words, a maximum of 60 people in one week.  It also recommends that you leave 3 days between these sessions.

Do I have to wear a visor when performing a temperature check?

EL recommends that temperature checks are performed on all participants (players, officials and spectators) in any lacrosse activity, and that face masks are worn by all parties during the temperature check process as well as following hand hygiene guidance before and after.
