As the England Women’s Under 19 World Cup training squad tour USA, we’ll be keeping up-to-date with their progress through the team’s daily blog.

Day 3 - Saturday 6 April

The team started off with breakfast to set them selves up for the day, preparing for the Spring Fling tournament.

The first match was against Collegiate, where after a slow start. we managed to narrow the scoreline to a 10-11 loss.

After refuelling for lunch, the team went on to play Stony Ridge, a challenging opponent for the girls.

Although we lost the match, the defence put in some effective high pressure play to keep their attackers out and caused lots of turnovers.

The evening finished with a stretching session and meditation, to relax the group before tomorrow.

Day 4 - Sunday 7 April

Day 4 was another game day for the squad. After a quick journey to Georgetown Visitation we were set to play the Cubs.

Raring to go after a thorough warm-up, we were ready to begin the 12 a-side half of the game. We fought hard in the first half defending well and keeping their attack out on many occasions.

In the second, 10 a-side half, the girls showed even more fire, the defence were on the mark and the attack were playing to their strengths, scoring the first goal of the half adding to the momentum the side built up on the pitch.

The dominance continued throughout the second half, causing ever more turnovers and controlling the majority of the draw controls, proving a very positive scrimmage game.

We finished with a big post-match meal and team debrief setting out some strategies going forward, before a relaxing stretch session with Jess Couser, physio.
