As the England Women’s Under 19 World Cup training squad tour USA, we’ll be keeping up-to-date with their progress through the team’s daily blog.

Day 5 - Monday 8 April

The team checked out of the hotel with a morning off from lacrosse for a driving tour around Washington. We got a chance to see all the main sights, with the cherry blossom trees in bloom around the Lincoln Memorial a particular highlight.

After a pit stop at Dick’s Sporting Goods and lunch, we headed to Glenelg School for our next match of the tour.

The 12v12 match was a hard fought contest against tough opposition with the American coming out with the win.

Moving to our favoured 10 a-side format, we started strong with huge determination and fight, picking up some great draw controls and threatening in attack which gave us the initial lead.

However, Glenelg brought it back and with an American goal in the last minute, we ended up on the wrong end of an 8-9 loss. We all appreciated the tailgate dinner from our hosts at the end of the game.

We then checked into our new hotel base in Baltimore for a good night’s sleep.

Day 6 - Tuesday 9 April

Tuesday was a team rest day! The day started with a much needed stretching session with our physio, Jess to get the last few days of matches out of the body.

Later, we had a fun time walking around the harbour in Baltimore enjoying the food, shopping and excellent weather!

After some relaxation and recuperation, we made our way to Johns Hopkins Stadium to watch an NCAA match against Stony Brook.

A close, exciting match allowed us to watch some high standard lacrosse and learn lots to take forward before our next game day tomorrow against Swarthmore College.
