The LA 2028 Olympic Games moved a step closer today after World Lacrosse announced the 2026 European Sixes Lacrosse Championships will take place in Salou, Spain from 2-18 November next year.
The Championships, featuring a separate women’s (2-9 November) and men’s (10-18 November) competition, will also serve as the continental qualifiers for the 2027 World Lacrosse Sixes Championships, pending International Olympic Committee (IOC) approval.
The 2027 Sixes Championships will showcase the top 16 men’s and women’s teams in the world and will serve as the primary qualifier for LA28.
World Lacrosse hope continental allocations will be finalised by the end of 2025, determining the number of spots available to teams at the European Sixes Lacrosse Championships.
What is known is that it will be Great Britain teams led by British Lacrosse taking part in any Olympic qualifying campaign.
Full details of the Olympic qualification process will be announced by World Lacrosse in the coming months.
Salou’s Mediterranean Sports Hub, approximately 100km from Barcelona, will play host to the European Sixes Lacrosse Championships, a venue that hosts more than 40 tournaments each year across multiple sports.
