Border City's annual Eights competition returns this weekend

The fifth annual Border Eights competition will take place on Saturday 13 September at Border City’s Cotehill Sports Ground in Brampton, Cumbria.

Consisting of a men’s rules tournament, Border Eights is part of Border City’s drive to provide more lacrosse competition in the very north of England and provide a fun playing opportunity to get teams warmed up for the 2025/26 season.

The tournament coincides with National Lacrosse Day 2025 and prides itself on providing playing opportunity for a wide range of players and teams taking part from those brand new to the sport to those more experienced and has maintained a solid place in the calendar since its inception.

Rochdale are the reigning champions, and are back again for this year’s 10-team competition, featuring a range of clubs from England and across the border in Scotland.

English champions head to compete at European Club Championships

2025 champions of England Spencer Men and Centaurs Women will be flying the flag on the continent this weekend as both teams go in search of glory at the European Club Championships.

Starting tomorrow (Friday 12 September), the European Club Championship, now known as the Ken Galluccio Cup in tribute to its creator, pits Europe’s best against each other featuring the league champions from all across Europe.

Spencer Men, who defeated Poynton in the National Club final, return to the competition for the first time since their successful 2022 appearance where they were crowned European champions for the second time, and will be looking to make it a third win this time in Czechia.

Meanwhile Centaurs Women, who overcame Oxton in the National Club final, are also looking to repeat previous success after winning a first European title back in 2019 in Ghent.

Following three years in Barcelona, the tournament has moved to Czechia at the famous LCC Radotin club just outside Prague.

Spencer have been drawn in Group A alongside Oslo (Norway), Bologna (Italy), Delft (Netherlands), and Wroclaw (Poland).

The Women’s competition was also originally drawn into two groups of five, but following the withdrawal of Dublin Lacrosse (IRL), a single nine-team table will be used with each team playing a selected four teams with all teams then being ranked following their matches to determine the knockout fixtures.

Centaurs will play their four fixtures against Edinburgh University (SCO), SW-Köln (GER), Bern (SUI), and the hosts LCC Radotin (CZE).

Friday and Saturday will consist of group matches, before the knockouts and final ranking matches on Sunday concluding with the Championship games at 14:00 (Women) and 14:30 (Men). All times listed below are UK timings.

British Lacrosse open applications for High Performance coaching roles

British Lacrosse (BL) is seeking to appoint a High Performance Coach for each of the Men’s and Women’s Olympic Sixes teams through to the end of the 2028 Olympic cycle.

The High Performance Coaches will lead the technical, tactical, and cultural development of the teams, and ensure sustained performance at major international competitions.

The role requires strong leadership, an ability to design and deliver high-performance environments at pace, and the vision to embed a clear British playing identity and pathway.

Lacrosse has a proud track record of international success, and the successful candidates will have the immediate task of developing the teams for the World and European Championship qualifying events prior to the LA28 games.

In addition to the coaching roles, BL is also looking to appoint a High Performance Coach Mentor to join the Coaching Leadership Team, working alongside the Men’s and Women’s High Performance coaches (coaching leads).

The High Performance Coach Mentor will bring world-leading expertise in elite coaching, providing guidance, mentoring, and strategic direction to ensure best practice is embedded across both men's and women's Olympic 6s performance teams.

This is an exciting moment for lacrosse in Britain — and an opportunity for exceptional leaders to shape the Olympic Sixes teams on the journey to the LA2028 Olympic Games.

This year’s National Lacrosse Day will shine a well-deserved spotlight on the unsung heroes of the sport, the grassroots schools and clubs that laid the foundation for lacrosse's brightest international stars, now eyeing up an appearance on the biggest stage of them all - The Olympic Games.

The celebration aims to highlight the powerful impact of local communities, coaches, volunteers, and junior teams in nurturing athletes who go on to represent their country on the world stage and show the huge breadth of starting points and personal journeys that we all have with the sport.

Every superstar has a starting point. Whether it was a muddy pitch at a primary school, a sports centre hall, or a local club with borrowed gear, the grassroots level is where we all began.

National Lacrosse Day is also our annual opportunity to celebrate everything we love about the game and get the season going with a bang by coming together as one community to celebrate lacrosse and the sport we all enjoy so much.

Bath Eights returns this weekend for 39th year

The annual Bath Eights competition returns to Bath Lacrosse Club’s Odd Down Sports Field this Saturday 6 September for its 39th edition as teams once again battle for the men’s and women’s titles.

33 teams will compete for the men’s trophy, and with 2023 and 2024 champions Mellor not returning to defend their title this time around there will be new champions; while 25 teams will take part in the eighth women’s competition, including 2024 champions Cheltenham Cougars.

After holding its first event in 1986, the men’s Bath Eights tournament quickly established itself as the lacrosse season opener with teams from north, south, east, and west taking part.

Teams from the north of the country have traditionally fared best in the men’s competition with 34 of the 38 titles going to teams from that region.

In 2017, a women’s tournament was also introduced, which has proven hugely competitive with no team winning the title twice with Stockport (2017), Bristol Bombers (2018), Bath University (2019), Godolphin School (2021), Wilmslow (2022), Cirencester (2023), and Cheltenham Cougars (2024) all picking up the trophy.

Spectators are able to attend completely free of charge, with food and drink available to purchase from the bar, cafe, and external vendors.

Bromley Bobcats launch girls' team ahead of new season

Bromley Bobcats Lacrosse Club in South East London has launched a brand new girls’ team ahead of the 2025/26 season.

After being founded in 2022 to provide an exit route for children and young people playing lacrosse in schools in the local area, the club has gone from strength to strength over the past three years with teams at under 10, 12, 14, and 16 level.

Up to now, boys and girls have been welcomed at the club to play the men’s rules, wearing protective equipment, but for the 2025/26 season, Bromley is expanding into women’s rules and they’re on the look out for new players and donations of equipment such as goggles and sticks.

Led by Head Coaches Mike Barrett alongside coaches Craig Simkin, Ben Page-Laycock, and Liam Barrett, new players are welcome whether they’ve played the game before or are complete novices.

Barrett said:

“Having been involved in the club since its foundation in 2022, the plan has always been to include women’s rules teams at some point.

“With the growth of the club over the past three years, now is the perfect time to expand and add that aspect of the sport to our club.

“We can’t wait to welcome new players to the club as we continue to grow the game in our area of the country.”

At the moment, the club is purely for junior players, but the long term aim is for the club to expand further and incorporate adult teams that compete in South of England Men’s Lacrosse Association (SEMLA) and South East Women’s Lacrosse Association (SEWLA) leagues and competitions.

Bromley’s training sessions are held at Park House Rugby Club with upcoming sessions on Tuesday 9 and Tuesday 16 September.

British Lacrosse announce 12-player squad for Canada Super Sixes

British Lacrosse has announced a 12-player men’s squad to travel to Oshawa, Canada, for the 2025 Canada Super Sixes taking place from 10-12 October.

All 12 players have represented England at international level with six of the roster having competed for England at the 2025 Men’s Euros earlier this year, finishing third.

The Great Britain men’s team will take on Canada, Australia, Poland, and Ireland in Group A with USA, Haudenosaunee, Mexico, Germany, and US Virgin Islands in Group B.

The Canada Super Sixes is an annual event that began in 2021 and showcases some of the best talent in the world playing the Olympic Sixes version of lacrosse.

Great Britain women competed at the 2024 edition with an England women’s team taking part in the 2022 competition.

2025 will mark Great Britain men’s debut at the tournament while the women’s team take a well-earned break after finishing fifth at The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China, in August.

This year’s Canada Super Sixes will once again see a women’s competition take place featuring Canada (Red), Australia, Mexico, Ireland, Canada (White), Germany, Haudenosaunee, and Dominican Republic split across two groups.

England Lacrosse issues further clarification of 2025/26 men's rules

England Lacrosse has issued further clarification of the updated men’s field lacrosse rules that come into force from the beginning of the 2025/26 season.

A 16-page presentation has been published to help players, coaches, and officials to understand in detail the newly updated men’s rules.

The presentation clarifies the major changes to the men’s rules, World Lacrosse rules that won’t be adopted by England Lacrosse, editorial changes, and changes to pitch dimensions.

England finish seventh at Men's U20 Worlds after win over Jamaica

England claimed seventh spot at the 2025 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship in Jeju, Korea after a nail-biting 14-13 win over Jamaica in the seventh place game on Saturday.

The result also ensured England finish as the highest placed European team in the competition with Ireland (9th), Netherlands (11th), Germany (12th), and Israel (13th) all finishing lower down the rankings.

This final game at the Championship was England’s seventh and fourth in four days and the opening 10 minutes were played at a slower pace than had been seen previously.

England were still able to carve out some meaningful chances, however, and went in at first quarter time 4-1 up after a hat-trick of goals from Drew Wilkinson and a single from Ellis Baythorpe.

It was more of the same in the second quarter and it looked as though England might run away with the game as they scored six more while conceding just three.

At half-time the score was 10-4 in England’s favour but a shift in momentum allowed Jamaica back in the game and six goals from the Caribbean nation followed with just one in reply from the young lions.

Heading into the final 15 minutes, there was just one goal in it but England managed to rally scoring two quick-fire goals to settle the England nerves.

An 11th for Jamaica was very quickly followed by a 14th for England through Spreckley but Jamaica were ending the game the strongest and with a minute to go in the contest were just one goal behind again.

As they searched for an equaliser to take the game to over-time, up stepped goalie Jackson Davies to save England’s bacon for the second time this tournament as he made another incredible save with seconds left on the clock to ensure a win for his team.

England taste second defeat at Men's U20 Worlds to Puerto Rico

England tasted a second defeat at the 2025 World Lacrosse Men’s U20 Championship after a 15-11 fifth place play-in game defeat to Puerto Rico.

The result means England will now take on fellow Group C opponents Jamaica again in tomorrow’s seventh place game after the Caribbean side were defeated by Japan earlier today.

England started resolutely against Puerto Rico and found themselves 1-0 up after an unlikely maraud forward from long pole James Thompson led to the opening goal.

Puerto Rico came into the game quickly after this, however, holding onto possession well, and ending the quarter 3-2 ahead.

In the second quarter, Puerto Rico’s quality really started to shine through and England’s lack of a dedicated face-off man through injury began to show.

Despite this, England were able to keep up with their opponents and finished the quarter just three goals behind at 8-5.

Puerto Rico began to pull ahead in the third with three goals within the first five minutes before Ben Jackson and then Archie Gold got England’s sixth and seventh.

Another couple of goals followed for Puerto Rico but with 10 minutes left in the match, England got a second wind and pushed on.

Four goals followed from Drew Wilkinson, Gold (x2), and Spencer Mason without reply and with just over three minutes left in the tie, it felt like anything was possible for a resurgent England.

But Nicolas Bucello and Joseph Rafferty brought it all crashing down with 14th and 15th goals for their side as they made it over the line. Just.

Puerto Rico will now take on Japan in the fifth place game tomorrow at 11am (UK).

Puerto Rico give England chance to bounce back at Men's U20 Worlds

England have the opportunity to immediately bounce back from their quarter-final defeat against USA when they take on Puerto Rico in a fifth place play-in game at the 2025 World Lacrosse Men’s U20 Championship on Friday.

The young lions had their first taste of defeat on Thursday when they came up against some of the best young players in the world but head into tomorrow’s game knowing a win will see them through to the fifth place game.

Puerto Rico are England’s opponents with the game facing-off at 11:10am (UK) and the North American team come into this match off the back of an agonising 13-12 defeat to Haudenosaunee in their quarter-final.

Like England, Puerto Rico finished top of their group after wins against Germany, Chinese Taipei, and Kenya; a play-in round game against Netherlands followed, ending in a 26-9 victory.

Attacker Nick Testa currently sits top of his team’s and the tournament’s points scoring chart with 19 goals and 19 assists in his five games.

Brothers Dominic and Nicolas Bucello both represent Puerto Rico with Dominic having completed his freshman season at NCAA Division II Florida Southern College this year and Nicolas recently committing to Lenoir‑Rhyne University. 

Puerto Rico are taking part in their second Men’s U20 Championship after making their debut in 2022 where they finished eighth.

England fall to QF defeat against USA at Men's U20 Worlds

England fell at the quarter-final stage to reigning champions USA at the 2025 World Lacrosse Men’s U20 Championship after a 26-0 defeat on Thursday.

Colin Kurdyla and Brendan Millon scored four goals each while Timothy Shannehan scored three and created seven as the USA secured a semi-final place where they’ll meet Haudenosaunee on Friday.

England return to the field tomorrow at the slightly later time of 11:10am (UK) for a fifth place play-in game against Puerto Rico.

After a huge one-goal win over Mexico on Wednesday, England had it all to do in this quarter-final against a team who have won every edition of this competition since its inception in 1988.

And USA started with determination, hammering in 11 goals within 12 minutes of the first quarter.

Thankfully for England, USA let up slightly, allowing the young lions a little more of the ball as the game went on.

That didn’t make it any easier for England who went down 6-0, 5-0, and 4-0 in the second, third, and fourth quarters respectively.

QF match against USA awaits England tomorrow

A huge quarter-final match against the United States of America awaits England on Thursday at the 2025 World Lacrosse Men’s U20 Championship after a dramatic 7-6 play-in victory over Mexico.

Once again, the match will face-off at the favourable (if you’re a fan watching in England) time of 11am (UK), meaning it’s another game under the lights for the lads at 7pm in Korea.

By defeating Mexico on Wednesday, and because of Ireland’s play-in defeat to Jamaica earlier in the day, England have already become the highest-ranked European side in the competition and they will pit themselves against some of the best young players in the world when the take on the US in the quarter-final.

Indeed, England’s quarter-final opponents have an impeccable record in this age group and at this competition, winning all nine previous editions since the first in 1988.

Every one of their 22-player roster plays NCAA collegiate lacrosse including a dynamic duo from the University of North Carolina with face-off specialist Brady Wambach and attacker Owen Duffy.

University of Notre Dame defender Shawn Lyght is regarded as one of the top defenders in the country just two years into his collegiate career. 

The USA reached the quarter-final stage after finishing top of Group A, defeating Canada, Haudenosaunee, and Australia in the process.

In those three group stage matches, they scored 39 goals and conceded just 10, highlighting the task ahead of England on Thursday.

At the 2022 edition of this Championship, USA ran out 22-3 winners in the group stage with Ollie Allsop, Will Shirt, and Danny Hilditch bagging the England goals.

England will be looking to lean on the exceptional young talent of Archie Gold once again after he bagged another four assists against Mexico while Drew Wilkinson has 12 goals from 24 attempts in his four games so far.

England secure clutch victory over Mexico to reach Men's U20 Worlds QF

England secured a dramatic 7-6 one-goal victory over a tough Mexico team to secure a place in the final eight at the 2025 World Lacrosse Men’s U20 Championship on Wednesday.

An unbelievable last second save from point blank range by goalie Jackson Davies sealed the win in a game that England were leading throughout.

The young lions will now take on an old and familiar foe in the USA tomorrow in their quarter-final match for a chance to be top four in the world.

As seems to be the theme in games involving England at this Championship, the first quarter was a slow burner but they got themselves 2-1 ahead after seven minutes thanks to goals from Ellis Baythorpe and Archie Gold.

A fairly serious shoulder injury to face-off man Leo Baythorpe cut his time on the field short but seemed to spur on his teammates who raced into a 4-1 lead before the end of the quarter.

An unusual goalless second quarter followed with Mexico’s goalie pulling off some outstanding saves to keep a determined England side at bay.

The goals trickled through in the third with two from Mexico through Ezekiel Peraza and Henry Alvarado and one for England from long-pole Alex Cartwright setting up a tense finale with the score at 6-3.

Mason Spencer got his name on the scoresheet for the first time this tournament five minutes into the fourth but that was to be it for England in terms of goals.

Three quick-fire strikes from the opposition gave the excited fans a one-goal game with Mexico pushing for an equaliser with less than three minutes to go.

England Lacrosse is looking for a new member for our Remuneration Committee to play a vital role in ensuring that the England Lacrosse People Plan and remuneration practices support the organisation’s strategic objectives, uphold governance standards, and reflect the values of inclusivity, excellence, and collaboration over the next three years.

A voluntary role with reasonable and agreed expenses, the Remuneration Committee member will be able to understand and evaluate the human resources (HR) implications not only for paid staff but also for the volunteer workforce that forms the backbone of the community and grassroots sport of lacrosse.

With lacrosse returning to the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028 after an 80-year absence, there has never been a more exciting time to be involved in the sport and, by joining the Remuneration Committee, you’ll be coming along with us for the ride!

As a Committee member, you’ll contribute to shaping a progressive and inclusive culture within England Lacrosse, ensuring that our people - whether paid staff or volunteers - are respected, valued, and supported.
