England Men reach Euros QF; Women secure group victory over hosts

England Men reached the quarter-finals of the 2026 European Box Lacrosse Championships after a convincing win over Belgium in their play-in game while England Women got back to winning ways as they overcame hosts Czechia in their penultimate Group Stage match last night.

England’s men’s team, still reeling from the previous night’s agonising over-time defeat to Ireland, picked themselves up and caught Belgium off guard early on, grinding them down to pull three goals ahead after 20 minutes.

Taking a 7-2 lead into the second half, England could be forgiven for easing off but Walt Christianson’s men were determined to reach the quarter-finals in style and extended their lead in the third quarter through goals from Will Prescott, Michael Blaymires, and Jack Bucknell.

As the game entered the final 10 minutes, Belgium sparked to life, scoring three without reply to gave them a final scoreline that perhaps flattered their overall performance.

England march on towards a quarter-final tie with Israel later today with a place in the final four at stake.

In the final match of the day, England’s women took on hosts Czechia looking to put themselves in a great position to secure a top four finish in the group.

After going down 1-0 after 41 seconds, England went on an eight-goal scoring run without allowing Czechia a sniff and despite a second for the hosts just before half-time, England were confident of the win after the opening two periods.

A more even third quarter followed, which Czechia won 2-1, but England sent their fans home happy with a three-goal flourish from Erin Tufnell, Leah Catton, and Torz Anderson to secure a 12-5 win.

Another victory over the Netherlands later today will see England secure a semi-final spot and a guaranteed top four finish.
