GB Women top pool to advance to European Sixes quarters

Great Britain Women sealed off a dominant pool stage campaign at the European Sixes Lacrosse Championships with victory against Norway to go three for three and secure top spot in Pool D.

As has been the case in all three of GB’s pool stage fixtures, the team raced out of the blocks in the first quarter against Norway posted 10 unanswered goals with a high intensity game putting the opposition under pressure and then utilising fast ball movement in transition to devastating effect.

From then on GB controlled the game, consistently adding to the scoring and moving the ball well between the team - all nine outfield players used scored during the match - to record a 26-3 win and set up a quarter final meeting with Poland on Friday afternoon.

The 26 goals scored against Norway was a repeat of the 26-0 shut out victory from the day before against Austria.

Another 10 goal blitz in the first quarter set the tone for the match, with GB also prevented any Austrian shot in the first quarter, and Britt Read not required to make a save in the first half of action.

After that opening quarter, GB posted quarters of 5-0, 5-0 and 6-0; Minty Loxton leading the way with five goals while Sofia Wise added seven points (4G, 3A) to her impressive tournament tally.

Back on Tuesday, GB had made a strong start to their European Sixes campaign with a 22-5 win against the Netherlands.

Teagan Scott and Loxton led the scoring with five goals apiece while Wise and Jordan Carr both posted four assists as key creatives sparks in a positive opening performance.

Netherlands were GB’s highest ranked opponents in the pool stage, and despite their opponents taking a 1-0 lead, GB responded with seven straight goals, including a Loxton hat-trick to banish any first game nerves and set the team on the right track.

A tight 2-2 second quarter demonstrated Netherlands’ quality and abilities to battle, the team featuring a number of players who played at this year’s The Fly Sixes competition alongside the 2026 victorious coaching duo Hannah Hunt and Albert Whitehead-Lee.

But Gb regrouped at the half and restored some normal order, with a big 9-1 Q3 before locking the game off in the final eight minutes to run out 22-5 victors.

Our quarter-final opponents Poland finished second in Pool A behind Israel, winning their first three matches in style before being defeated 20-5 against the pool winners.

Friday’s match holds extra significance as the winners of each of the quarter-finals will also book their place at the 2027 World Lacrosse Sixes Championships in Colorado Springs, moving them one step closer towards Olympic qualification for LA28.
