World Lacrosse confirm LA28 Olympic qualification timeline
World Lacrosse has today confirmed the qualification timeline for the LA28 Olympic Games after it received International Olympic Committee (IOC) approval over the weekend.
The three-stage journey for teams, including Great Britain, will begin with continental championships later this year; Great Britain’s men’s and women’s teams will compete at the 2026 European Sixes Lacrosse Championships in Salou, Spain from 2-18 November.
This will be followed by the primary qualifier for the 2028 Olympics, the 2027 World Lacrosse Sixes Championships, featuring the top 16 men’s and top 16 women’s teams.
In addition to the USA, which automatically qualify for LA28 as hosts, four men’s and four women’s teams will earn the right to compete on the world’s biggest stage through the 2027 World Lacrosse Sixes Championships.
World Lacrosse intends to announce the venues and dates for the sixes championships over the next few months.
The final men’s and women’s place at the Olympics will be decided in early 2028 at a final qualifying tournament featuring the best six men’s and women’s team to have not already qualified: the teams will be ranked according to their placings in the World Lacrosse Sixes Championships.
The LA28 lacrosse competition will take place 24-29 July at Exposition Park Stadium near Los Angeles and the registration period for the ticket draw is open until 18 March HERE.
