England Men’s National squad celebrating victory at the 2016 European Championship
In preparation for the upcoming 2021 European Championship, England Senior Men’s National Team are holding an official assessment weekend on 24/25 October at Cheadle Hulme School.
The assessment weekend will be the final opportunity for any UK-based players to earn their spot on the Senior Men’s Training squad, from which the final 23-man squad will be selected to represent Team England at the European Championship next July..
The 2021 European Lacrosse Championship, taking place in Wroclaw, Poland, at which England will compete as reigning champions following victory in 2016, was originally scheduled for this summer but rearranged due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In order to adhere to the current Return to Play restrictions, attendance on the assessment weekend will be strictly limited to 25 players per day.
As such, any interested players will need to provide information prior to the weekend which the coaching staff will pre-screen before selecting players in specific positions that they believe have the adequate experience and ability to compete for a spot in the Training Squad along with ensuring an equal balance across positions.
Each day will consist of competitive drills, technical workshops and game-based scenarios in order for the staff to fully evaluate the player base and all will be conducted in a covid-compliant environment.
Please note, should additional Covid-restrictions be put in place for the proposed October dates then the Assessment Weekend will take place on 21/22 November.
The Training Squad will meet on a monthly basis throughout the rest of the year before undertaking an increased schedule through early 2021 and will participate in multiple scrimmages against international opponents, the Home Internationals Tournament and a potential European tour weekend.
The Training Squad will also form the basis of the team selected to move forward to the 2023 World Championships in Los Angeles, USA.
In order to register your interest in attending the Assessment Weekend, login to your EL membership profile, complete the Registration Form and make payment of £50 (You will be required to hold a valid England Lacrosse Individual Membership for the 2020/21 Season before completing the registration).
(Should you not be selected to attend the trial weekend due to restrictions, you will be reimbursed in full by England Lacrosse).
