British Lacrosse has announced the experienced Alex Carnegie-Brown as the High Performance Coach of their women’s team as they look to qualify for and then compete at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA.

Carnegie-Brown has over 15 years of coaching experience, including a year as a university coach, five as a club coach, and 13 as a coach on the England Lacrosse Aspire Programme.

The 38-year-old also has an enviable track-record coaching Sixes Lacrosse, the version of the sport that will be played at LA28, after winning The Fly Sixes Lacrosse League in 2023 and finishing second twice (2022, 2024).

Indeed, there isn’t an area or level of the game that Carnegie-Brown hasn’t been involved in since she began coaching, with U19 World Championship festivals, Senior European Championships, Senior World Championships, talent programmes, and several major tournament medals all on her impressive CV.

Throughout her coaching career so far, Carnegie-Brown has consistently improved the players, teams, and programmes that she’s been a part of and her vision, leadership, and commitment to developing world-class players and performance environments is what made her stand out during the recruitment process with British Lacrosse.

British Lacrosse Performance Director Chris Russell said:

“I’m delighted to welcome Alex to the team and really looking forward to the fresh, innovative, and driven approach she brings.

“This is an incredibly exciting time for British Lacrosse. Alex is a standout coach, and she will be well supported internally and across the wider UK Sport coaching team.”

Carnegie-Brown will take up her post immediately with her first focus being the recently announced 2026 European Sixes Lacrosse Championships in Salou, Spain next November.

Carnegie-Brown said upon her appointment:

“It is a true privilege to lead the women’s British Lacrosse team on the journey to LA28. The Olympics mark an extraordinary moment for our sport, and I feel honoured to play a part in this chapter.

“I am excited to bring my passion and vision to building a programme where athletes can thrive, challenge limits, and deliver performances to make our mark on the Olympic stage.”

Chair of the British Lacrosse Board Leslie Rance said:

“With lacrosse’s return to the Olympics, British Lacrosse is committed to qualifying and representing the nation with excellence, in women’s lacrosse’s first appearance as an official medal sport at this pinnacle event.

“We congratulate Alex on her outstanding appointment to the key role of Sixes Women’s High-Performance Coach and look forward to supporting her leadership towards this historic opportunity.”

In a recent statement, British Lacrosse promised Carnegie-Brown’s appointment “marks the first step in a wider series of coaching appointments” as they “continue to expand and strengthen” their high-performance coaching team.
