Godolphin retain School Challenge Cup with win over St Catherine’s

Godolphin became only the second team to retain the School Challenge Cup after adding the 2025 title to the one they won last year following a 6-2 victory over St Catherine’s in this year’s final at Queen Anne’s School last Sunday.

Despite having less possession than their opponents during the 30-minute match, Godolphin were clinical in front of goal and resolute at the back to become the first team since Guildford High in 2023 to retain the title.

Godolphin, who finished fifth at the National Schools Lacrosse Championships earlier this year, stormed into an early 3-0 lead.

Determined to make a game of it, St Catherine’s pulled two goals back in quick succession but Godolphin, led by England international star Jamie Powell, proved too strong and claimed the victory, scoring three more goals before the final whistle.

Elsewhere in the competition, Moreton Hall came out on top in an all-northern third/fourth place play-off to take home the bronze medals against Withington Girls’.
