Host venue for World Lacrosse Sixes Championships announced

World Lacrosse has announced Colorado Springs, USA as the host for the 2027 World Lacrosse Sixes Championships, the sport’s primary qualifier for the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028.

The event will take place from 4-10 October at Weidner Field, the 8,000 capacity home of USL Championship side Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC.

16 men’s and 16 women’s teams will compete at the inaugural World Sixes Championships, with the competition carrying unprecedented significance as five of the six men’s and women’s Olympic berths for LA28 being secured at the Championships.

Colorado Springs, known globally as Olympic City USA, is home to the headquarters of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee, more than 50 National Sport Organisations, a U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center, and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Museum.

As agreed with World Lacrosse, the home nations will compete throughout the qualifying process as British Lacrosse, which begins at the 2026 European Sixes Lacrosse Championships in Salou, Spain scheduled for 2-18 November.

The top five placed countries from the men’s and women’s European Qualifiers will then secure a place at the World Lacrosse Sixes Championships in Colorado Springs alongside another 11 sides from across the different Continental Federations.

World Lacrosse CEO Jim Scherr said: “Few places in the world embody the Olympic spirit like Colorado Springs. As we prepare for lacrosse’s return to the Olympic Games in 2028, it is only fitting that the first-ever sixes championships and our primary Olympic qualifier will take place in Olympic City USA.

“This championship will determine the majority of the Olympic field and will be one of the defining moments in our sport’s modern history.”
