Sheffield Steelers Lacrosse Club recognised with Community Partner Award

Sheffield Steelers Lacrosse Club has been recognised for its outstanding commitment to growing the game after winning the Community Partner Award at the Sheffield School Games celebration.

The award celebrates organisations that work in partnership with schools to create more opportunities for young people to take part in sport and physical activity beyond the school day, helping to build lasting connections with community clubs.

Throughout the year, Sheffield Steelers has worked closely with schools, School Games Organisers and local partners to introduce hundreds of children to lacrosse through curriculum delivery, enrichment activities and community events. Their work has given many young people their first experience of the sport while creating clear pathways into regular club participation.

The club was recognised for delivering inclusive, engaging sessions that help children develop not only lacrosse skills, but also confidence, teamwork, communication and resilience. Judges also highlighted the club's role in supporting city-wide events, including activities at the Olympic Legacy Park, helping more families discover lacrosse in a fun and welcoming environment.

The award reflects Sheffield Steelers' commitment to making lacrosse accessible to young people of all abilities, while strengthening partnerships across the local sporting landscape to remove barriers to participation.

England Lacrosse Chief Executive Mark Coups said:

Awards like this highlight the incredible impact our clubs have within their local communities, creating positive experiences for young people and inspiring the next generation to get involved in lacrosse. The club's commitment to working alongside schools and community partners is a brilliant example of how we can grow the game together."

Sheffield Steelers' success demonstrates the important role community clubs play in supporting schools, encouraging lifelong participation in sport and creating opportunities for young people to enjoy the many benefits of being active.

Congratulations to everyone involved in this well-deserved achievement.
