Spencer take on Hillcroft in Senior Final on SEMLA Flags Finals day
Spencer will look to win back-to-back titles when they take on challengers Hillcroft in the senior final at Surrey Sports Park on Sunday as part of SEMLA Flags Finals day.
The London club reached their 12th senior final in a row after a 1-0 walk-over win against last year’s finalists Camden Capybaras in the semi-final last month.
They come into the final after securing the SEMLA Premier Division title for a second year in a row, eventually finishing four points ahead of fellow senior flags finalists Hillcroft.
When Hillcroft take to the field on Sunday they’ll enjoy their first senior final since 2004 when they lost out on the title after a 16-5 defeat to Purley.
That final 22 years ago was Hillcroft’s fifth in their history after also losing in 1995, 1993, 1986, and 1985.
Also taking place on Sunday, the 2026 Intermediate Final will be contested between Hitchin and Bristol Bombers with the latter hoping to avenge their defeat to Walcoutians in last year’s final.
Bristol Bombers do have form in this competition having lifted the trophy twice before in 2013 when they beat Spencer 2 and in 2011 after a narrow victory over Portsmouth University; their first Intermediate Final appearance was in 2010 when they lost to Cardiff Harlequins.
Hitchin have also won the Intermediate title before after wins in 1999, 2000, and 2002; defeats to Beckenham in 1988 and Oxford University in 2003 are their only other final appearances.
The opening match on SEMLA Flags Finals day will see Leicester City and Richmond go head-to-head in the Minor Flags Final.
With both teams being relatively new clubs, there isn’t much history in the competition between them but Leicester have made back-to-back finals after losing to Camden Capybaras 2 last year.
The 2026 final marks Richmond’s first ever final in their inaugural year as a fully fledged senior club.
Spectators are welcome to attend the SEMLA Flags Finals day at Surrey Sports Park with entry completely free of charge.
