Durham and Trent take top honours at BUCS Sixes Championships

Durham Women and Nottingham Trent Men scored early season bragging rights as they left Manchester victorious at the 2026 BUCS Lacrosse Sixes Championships.

In a repeat of last year’s Men’s Championship final, Nottingham Trent claimed a third consecutive title once again defeating city rivals University of Nottingham, while Durham took down reigning champions Exeter with an impressive day’s performance.

A record 53 teams competed at Platt Lane Sports Complex across the Championships with representation as far reaching as Bangor, Glasgow, and Exeter.

Durham Women made their mark early on in the day, meeting Exeter in both teams opening match, with Durham delivering an 8-3 win to give all their opponents notice.

Exeter had a battle all day long, coming through two one-goal games against Cambridge and Nottingham Trent, but then showed their class to beat last year’s finalists and previously unbeaten University of Nottingham in the semi-finals.

Durham cruised through the rest of their pool and posted big victories against Liverpool and Birmingham to book their place in the final and a rematch with Exeter.

And Durham repeated their success from earlier on in the day, running out comfortable 6-1 winners in the final and take home the Championship crown.

In the men’s championship the two Nottingham sides were standout performers from the off, both running out top of their pools with ease.

Again both teams eased through the knockouts, only conceding one goal between them in their semi-finals and setting up the expected finale.

Both teams also came into the competition with 100% records in their opening BUCS league fixtures and something had to give - And it was Trent, as they have the previous two years before, who just managed to come through the stronger and take the victory 10-6 to earn gold.

In the Men’s Trophy, University of Nottingham 2s also retained their title with an emphatic 11-0 win against Durham 2s in the final.

Meanwhile in the Women’s Trophy, overtime was needed to separate Exeter 2s and holders University of Nottingham 2s, but it was the south west side that prevailed 5-4, to see each of the four trophies head to different universities for the first time since the competition moved to Sixes.
