English champions head to Prague for European Club Championships
The 2026 champions of England Mellor LC Men and Centaurs LC Women will be flying the flag on the continent this weekend as both teams go in search of success at the European Club Championships.
Starting Tomorrow (Friday 11 September), the European Club Championship, now known as the Ken Galluccio Cup in tribute to its creator, pits Europe’s best against each other featuring national club champions from across Europe.
Mellor, making their European debut, head to the famous LCC Radotin club looking to continue England’s two-year winning streak following on from Hamsptead in 2024, and Spencer in 2025, the team they defeated in the National Club Final to qualify for Europe.
English representatives have won 11 of the 15 men’s competitions at the championship with Mellor out to add to that record and with a squad featuring a number of England internationals such as Drew Bickerton, Tom Hallam, Cam Major and Josh Poke alongside more junior England representatives they should be formidable opposition.
Centaurs meanwhile are back to attempt to retain their European crown won last year after defeating Oxton in the National Club Final to secure their return to European competition.
Centaurs are now two-time European champions, adding to their maiden honours from 2019, and with a strong roster will be hoping of making it a third success.
Led by recent England World Championship trio Cece Green, Charlie Wilson and Hannah Thurston the squad is also complemented by some of the brightest young English talent in Katie Gray, Molly Male and Marie Rudd among others with recent England appearances.
Friday and Saturday at the championships will consist of group matches, before the semi-finals on Saturday evening and final ranking matches on Sunday concluding with the Championship games at 14:00 (Women) and 15:00 (Men). All times listed are local timings with Czechia +1 hour ahead of the UK.
The men’s competition will consist of a single seven-team table, with each team playing a selected four teams, and teams then being ranked following their matches to determine the knockout fixtures.
Mellor will face Zurich Lions, Rotterdam Jaguars, home side LCC Wolves, and 1880 Frankfurt in their four round robin fixtures, with a top-four placing required to advance through to the semi-finals.
The women’s competition features two groups of four, with Centaurs in Group A, alongside Christiania LC, Ghent Gazelles and HTHC Hamburg as their three group opponents with a top-two finish required to make the semi-finals.
